My story ideas

Joan Laird has owned chicken houses for 32 years since her husband died. She sells the eggs, whereas most farmers in the area raise the chickens for slaughter. Her daughter-in-law and some kid named Josh help her out sometimes. She depends on the business for income. She is not sure yet if the company will allow me to go in the houses, could be a deal-breaker.

Kermit McGee runs a flea market just outside Lavonia. He has been doing it for a number of years and has seen some unusual people come through. There is a restaurant on the site that is open 4 days/week. The weather can greatly influence how many people come on any given day or weekend, though.

Christy Phillips-Malcom owns the Royston Drug Store, which she bought from her mother in the (70s?). She is a UGA grad and was one of the first female pharmacists in the area. There is also a restaurant in the store where lots of locals regularly eat and hang out. Her son, who has downs syndrome, is incredibly popular in the community and likes to help out in the store sometimes.

Either the flea market or the pharmacy. Especially focus on the son and his interactions with the customers; if he’s popular, he’s probably part of why people keep coming back.

  2. Mark E. Johnson says:

The drug store would be my top choice, particularly if it’s the only one in Royston – lots of relationships there and there should be a steady bit of traffic.

The flea market has a lot of potential, but if no one shows, you end up with a lot of images of one guy hanging around.

  3. Heather Pitts says:

DRUG STORE, DRUG STORE, DRUG STORE! haha. Or Kermit.

  4. Erin Smith says:

I like the chicken house idea, mainly because I wanted to find one for my project, but the pharmacy also seems like a good choice.

I really like the drug store idea. There is so much potential for human interaction that I think you could get great shots of. But Kermit McGee just has an awesome name and if it is busy I think you could get a good story out of that as well.

  6. Lexi Deagen says:

LOVE the drug store! Especially if they have good relationships with costumers!

  7. I like both the flea market and drug store ideas

  8. Damien Salas says:

Like the chicken farm idea. It goes in at a different angle than the one Kavi pitched.

  9. Drug store and flea market are my favorites! Lots of potential for interactions and relationships!

  10. WAIT. Kermit McGee!? That is the best name I’ve ever heard.

I love the drug store idea, especially if you can capture interactions with the son and customers.
